Server/Embedded BIOS Engineering Managers
Job Description
The Server and Embedded Engineering Managers will be responsible for guiding the development efforts of a team of firmware engineers to meet product and technology goals. The Engineering Manager has overall responsibility for the planning, design, coding, and integration of our UEFI based server or embedded firmware products. He or she must have a track record of accomplishments in team building, people management, project management, and server or embedded product development.
Skill Requirements and Job Functions
o Must be able to directly manage experienced and inexperienced firmware engineers, to organize teams of engineers to function efficiently, and be sensitive to needs of the individual engineers for career growth, for recognition of their contributions, for training, and for providing challenging assignments.
o Must be able to balance the schedule demands of the customers with the skills of the engineers.
o Must have expertise with PC technology at a proficiency level sufficient to set the strategic direction for major technical initiatives, be viewed as a competent technical advisor to the engineers, customers, and other internal groups, to support the pre-sales teams with technical advice, strategic information, and technical roadmaps.
o Must be able to interact in English with US engineers and customers in a clear and consistent manner.
o Must be able to track engineering progress against schedules and reliably distribute progress information, be tolerant of schedule pressures while working with new code and new hardware and inflexible delivery dates, and be able to handle unexpected events with calmness, mental agility, and creativity.
o Must show a track record of progressive increases in technical and/or management responsibilities, be able to collaborate with other engineering groups to leverage each other’s efforts, to support QA and code release processes.
Technical Requirements
o BS or MS in Computer Science or EE, or 10 years of equivalent experience.
o 15+ years experience in the PC industry with firmware development teams and 2+ years in managerial role.
o Must be proficient in well-known Project Management tools, Windows development environment and tools.
o PC BIOS experience highly desirable, particularly with the new UEFI standards.
o Experienced in PC based server or embedded firmware product development highly desirable.
