You need to be a good writer, speaker, and listener - you\'ll have to explain and justify your designs, and be able to run with other people\'s ideas and give feedback to them. It matters what your code looks like. (It matters to us, and we want it to matter to you.) You like it when people look over your shoulder, and you\'re prepared to give other people feedback on what they\'re doing as well. In addition to being extremely proficient in Python, you don\'t mind occasionally switching to PHP or C++. You\'ve got experience with a number of operating systems, some, but not all, of which were flavors of UNIX. You like getting in early on designs; you don\'t need everything presented to you in bite-sized pieces, but you can use, and produce, specific interface descriptions as a basis for discussion. You need to have a deep understanding of fundamental data structures and algorithms. You understand multiprocessing - locks, contention, transactions, buffering, queues. You understand databases and different choices in designing or picking one. You appreciate scaling up to terabytes of data and billions of records. You\'ve used transactions and can think of situations where you wouldn\'t. |
