We are looking for a motivated Director or VP of Engineering who truly wants to make an impact and join an international, world-class team. Zoodles is a rapidly growing (15 mil+ installs of our Kid Mode app, all organic), award-winning cross-platform mobile and web start-up backed by HTC that is revolutionizing educational technology for kids globally using the power of Big Data. What You Will Be Doing • Lead an innovative and growing cross-platform engineering team that works on solving complex challenges in a fast-paced start-up environment • Mentor, lead, and provide feedback to members of the team • Build software prototypes and deliver in a fast paced iterative process • Establish development practices for the technology teams, including release cycles, choices of technology and coding standards • Work closely with product management and designers on distilling functional requirements into technical designs that result in innovative mobile and web products • Be responsible for all aspects of the company’s engineering product development activities within time and budget constraints while fostering innovative solutions to customer needs Required Skills • Graduate degree in computer science, scientific computing, applied computing, computing engineering or similar field is required • 10+ years relevant work experience • A record of solid technical achievements and experiences • Experience with Android/Java, and iOS/Objective-C • 5+ years web application development experience, capable of deeply understanding and working at all layers of a web application stack; designing and implementing large, distributed and scalable services • Experienced in web technologies and frameworks (i.e. HTML, CSS, JS, SQL, Ruby on Rails, etc.) • Experience with RSpec and BDD a plus • Experience in managing outsourced teams in foreign countries is required • Excellent communication skills -- Ability to communicate with senior management and across cultures • Strong English skills needed -- reading, writing, and speaking; Mandarin Chinese desirable • Must have a “startup” mentality (previous startup experience a plus) o Willing to be flexibleo Have a “do whatever it takes” mentalityo Able to manage diverse, simultaneous projects of varying complexities.o Be comfortable in a fast-moving, test-and-learn, data-driven environmento Possesses a Collaborative approach, Self-initiative, Integrity, Passion, and Maturity |
